Re:Test Helps The University of British Columbia (UBC) Build a Six Degree of Freedom (6 DoF) Seismic Test System.
The University of British Columbia is building a state of the art 4mx4m six DoF seismic test table. The University wants to get the most capability possible, with a limited budget, so they contracted with Re:Test to help them meet their goals. Re:Test evaluated the requirements of the system, the availability of University resources, and the budget, and recommended a course of action. By combining solutions from multiple vendors, and performing the system engineering, Re:Test has been able to design a system that provides all the required capabilities, within their very limited budget. The system will be built for less than half the cost of a turn-key solution from an OEM. The movie above is of a kinematic model, developed by Re:Test to evaluate the existing pit dimensions and angle requirements of the swivels. "Nigel Linden, of Re:Test, has been assisting the Earthquake Research Group at the University of B.C. for the past 2 years. He has been providing engineering consulting services for the construction of a new 6 degree of freedom hydraulic shake table involving both the hydraulic design and the servo controller implementation. This project involves the integration of new custom built equipment and a variety of existing equipment to yield an optimum solution on a tight budget. Mr. Linden has worked with our technicians and third party equipment suppliers/manufacturers to ensure that the technical aspects of the project are met and has been flexible to the many changes made as the work has progressed. His experience and input has been invaluable and I look forward to the successful completion of this project in the near future."
