Re:Test Engineers can help you with your Buzz Squeak and Rattle Testing.

Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR) testing was developed in the 80's as automotive product performance became more competitive. As the interior noise of vehicles was reduced through improved engine isolation, body and suspension designs, annoying non-linear noises caused by vibrating surfaces, stiction, friction, etc. became more evident. Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR) tests were developed to identify and troubleshoot these issues. Because on their non-linear nature, identifying issues can be a challenge. While a vehicle may be completely quiet in most conditions, a certain temperature and humidity combination might cause mating plastic structures to expand (or contract) and introduce a coefficient of friction that creates an annoying audible noise. Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR) tests are performed on complete vehicles in development labs and production lines (for quality control) and on components such as instrument panels.

Nigel Linden was involved with the very first Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR --also known simply as Squeak and Rattle) systems. Working with pioneers in the technology, Nigel helped develop systems and test procedures to isolate issues within vehicles, structures and assemblies. From 4-posters to Multi-Axis-Simulation-Tables (MAST), Nigel has helped design and configure environmental chambers, test systems and the interaction between the two to ensure productive testing with low maintenance costs.

Examples of systems and components involved:

Co-author of SAE 871941: Integrating Simulation Technology into Automotive Design Evaluation and Validation Processes (Nolan/Linden). Nigel Linden is very experienced with using road-simulators to perform full vehicle and component tests. Nigel has innovated many of the control techniques that have now become commonplace. Nigel also founded the original Remote Parameter Control® (RPC®) Users' Group. With over 28 years of experience, Nigel Linden can help you with all aspects of full vehicle  testing.

If you need help with performing field instrumentation and strain gauging, field data acquisition, data analysis,  or test design we can help.

Our on-line training class teaches students to use servo-hydraulic test equipment for Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR) testing, or we can provide you with on-site consulting, training, or work on a specific issue for you.

We can also help you with outsourcing your Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR)  testing, developing Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR) test lab strategies, designing Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR)  tests, or  expanding your Buzz Squeak and Rattle (BSR) testing capabilities.
